How to properly cite your sources in AMA

What is APA?

What is AMA?

AMA is the citation style used by the American Medical Association. It was created for their publication, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). AMA is not concerned so much with the format of your paper, but on the peculiarities of your citations.

Unlike other styles, AMA uses numbers to represent the citation.

  • Every time you cite a source (even if you’ve cited them before), you generate a new citation.
  • The number are formatted using the superscript option in the font section of the homepage.
  • Some professors ask you to use numbers in parenthesis instead. Ex: (1).
